UT Tyler University Academy at Palestine utilizes Leader in Me principles and other school counseling resources to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and character development. School counselors may provide developmentally appropriate classroom guidance lessons throughout the school year for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Classroom guidance lessons may address a variety of age-appropriate topics, including conflict resolution, friendship and relationship skills, emotional regulation, communication, responsibility, goal setting, decision-making, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, organization, time management, study skills, self-awareness, perseverance, respect, empathy, accountability, initiative, positive habits, responsible choices, and effective collaboration.
These lessons are educational and preventive in nature and are designed to help students develop skills that support success at school, at home, and in relationships with others. Topics and activities are adjusted to meet the developmental needs of students at each grade level.
Leader in Me curriculum materials are available for parent/guardian review upon request. Because Leader in Me does not provide a parent portal for accessing the full curriculum online, parents and guardians may contact the school to arrange an opportunity to review the materials in person.
Parents and guardians may choose to opt their child out of school counseling classroom guidance lessons at any time during the school year. Please contact the school counselor for additional information or to request an opt-out form.
